ものを長く大切に使い続ける国イギリスからやってきたダーニング。どうしても捨てられない虫食いセーター、つま先やかかとがすり切れた靴下、シミがついてしまったお気に入りのシャツなどなど…、まだ着たい衣類を魔法のように蘇らせる、簡単で楽しい、そして、古くて新しいお直しのテクニックです。使用する道具は“ダーニングマッシュルーム”と呼ばれるきのこ型の台と、針と糸。衣類の穴やすり切れ部分に、ザクザクと糸をくぐらせたり、渡していくだけ。好きな糸で、好きな色で、好きなだけ、自由な発想でかわいらしく補修しましょう。野口光さんらしい素材選びと色使いでダーニングした63パターンのお直しを、アイテム別で紹介。

Darning is the useful and magical technique from England where people take care of their things and use them for many years. It’s simple and easy, old but new skill to repair your longtime favourites that you still would love to wear, such as moth-eaten sweaters, worn socks, stained shirts. A wooden tool called “darning mushroom,” thread and needle are all you need. Repair by running the thread up and down the worn areas, by using your favourite yarn in favourite colour, as much as you like to make your item really pretty.
